Pre-Order Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2023): Editions, Price, And More

Call of Duty fans are gearing up to play the lastest installment in the long-running franchise — Modern Warfare 3 (2023). Activision has announced that this entry will be a direct follow-up to 2022's Modern Warfare 2, which sees Captain Price and Task Force 141 face-off against Vladimir Makarov. Helmed by Sledgehammer Games, Modern Warfare 3 aims to bring back a number of classic and well-loved features, setting the game up to be one that CoD fans are bound to remember.

One of the biggest additions is the return of 16 classic MW2 (2009) maps, all remastered and optimized for modern Call of Duty. These include Scrapyard, Skidrow, Terminal and Quarry. Players will also be able to "carry forward" their Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone cosmetics to use in Modern Warfare 3, ensuring that they'll be kitted out from day one.

With plenty of news now emerging for Modern Warfare 3, players are turning their attention to pre-orders. Activision has confirmed that players will have the choice between the Cross-Gen/Standard Edition and the Vault Edition, each one coming with a number of bonuses. Modern Warfare 3 Pre-Order Editions: All Platforms, Content & Price

While Modern Warfare 3 will have two pre-order editions, the content included in each one differs slightly depending on which platform you buy, and whether you purchase a physical or digital edition. 

Modern Warfare 3 Cross-Gen/Standard Edition Pre-Order

Digital Edition

Platforms: PS4, PS5, XONE, Xbox Series X|S, PC

PS4 and Xbox One owners will be able to upgrade their version should they get a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S in the future. Upgrades will be applicable for the respective platforms (PS4 players can only upgrade to a PS5 version).  

Physical Edition

Platforms: PS4, PS5, XONE, Xbox Series X|S

Price: $69.99

Includes: 

• Physical disc version of Modern Warfare 3
• Open Beta Early Access (Pre-order Benefit) - You should receive a “Beta Code” allowing Early Access at the point of sale, at your retailer.

Note that physical editions for last-gen consoles (PS4, Xbox One) will include the next generation version for their respective consoles:

How To Pre-Order Modern Warfare 3

Players can make their pre-orders for Modern Warfare 3 via a number of methods. For Digital Editions, players can either purchase their desired platform pre-order via the official Call of Duty website, or through their platform's digital storefronts.

Physical Edition pre-orders can be made via your preferred retailer, which will vary by location. Players cannot currently pre-order Physical Editions via the Call of Duty website.

Can I Upgrade Modern Warfare 3 Standard Edition To Vault Edition?

Activision have confirmed that, if you preorder or pre-purchase the Standard or Cross-Gen Digital Edition of Modern Warfare 3, you can upgrade to the Vault Edition if the upgrade is on the same platform. So, if you've pre-purchased the Standard Edition on PC via Battle.net, you can upgrade to the Vault Edition at anytime until the upgrade offer expires, but only through Battle.net.

The method to upgrade varies depending on platform:

PlayStation: Upgrade directly through the Call of Duty in-game store or the platform store where you purchased the Cross-Gen Digital Edition, for $30 or your regional equivalent.

Xbox: Cancel your Cross-Gen Digital Edition preorder, then purchase the Vault Edition through the Call of Duty in-game store, the Call of Duty website, or the platform store.

Battle.net: Upgrade directly through the Call of Duty in-game store or the platform store where you purchased the Standard Edition, for $30 or your regional equivalent.

Steam: Upgrade directly through the Call of Duty in-game store or the platform store where you purchased the Standard Edition, for $30 or your regional equivalent.

Those who pre-ordered a Physical Edition of Modern Warfare 3 cannot upgrade to a Vault Edition.
