One of the most successful games of 2023, Elden Ring, will be getting its DLC soon on June 21 named Shadow of the Erdtree. After a long wait, FromSoftware has finally revealed its first trailer and gave us a first look at what we can expect from it. 

In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, we will follow Miquella and unravel the dark side of the story. Apart from this, players will be facing Messmer the Impaler, a new boss who might have a connection to Miquella.

Players have been eagerly waiting for it for a year, and one of the most asked questions is whether Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is free.

Will Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Be Free?

You need to have Elden Ring base game in order to play Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, but it's not free.

The short answer is no; Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is not free. In order to play it, you will need to purchase the DLC separately along with the base game. The DLC is available for pre-order across all platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and you can find the details of all editions available below:

Base Editions

  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree($40) – It is the standard version of the DLC and is available digitally on all platforms. 
  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Bundle ($80) – This bundle includes the disc edition of the Elden Ring base game and the digital edition of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. If you want the physical version of the DLC, you can purchase it for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. 

Premium Editions

  • Premium Bundle($50) – The bundle includes the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, a digital art book and digital soundtrack bonus content for the expansion. Available digitally on all platforms.
  • Deluxe Edition($100)– It includes the Elden Ring base game, the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, digital art books and digital soundtracks for both the base game and the expansion. Available digitally on all platforms.

Collector’s Edition (Limited Quantity)

  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Edition ($250) – It includes a single voucher code for the selected platform for the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Apart from this, it comes with a (46 cm) statue of “Messmer the Impaler,” a 40-page physical art book, and a digital soundtrack.
