Forspoken - release date, pre-order, story, gameplay and more

Forspoken is a new open-world action-adventure game from Square Enix, the same development team behind Final Fantasy 15. As a next-gen only PlayStation 5 exclusive title, expectations from Forspoken are exceptionally high.

The reveal trailer portrayed the game as a visual showcase designed to take full advantage of the PS5's capabilities. However, if recent gameplay trailers and previews are any indications, Forspoken may have substantially more to offer than just picturesque visuals.

So, without further ado, here's everything you need to know about Forspoken before it launches, including the release date, gameplay, storyline, editions and pre-order bonuses.

What is Forspoken's release date?

Forspoken launches on 24th January 2022 for PC and PS5. The game was initially planned to release on 24th May 2022, but was delayed to 11th October 2022. Now, developer Square Enix have delayed the game yet again, pushing it out for 2023 and calling it a "strategic decision."

As it turns out, Frey has magical abilities in Athia, which she must use to traverse the gigantic war-torn open world and fight monsters and enemy factions - the Tantas, all while trying to find the way back home.

Forespoken: Gameplay

Forspoken features a massive open-world playground for players to get lost in. Traversal is crucial to the gameplay as Frey can magically parkour over gruelling landscapes with ease.

She can also conjure a magical skateboard to cover long distances gleefully. Forspoken will also take full advantage of the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive trigger, meaning all the jumping, gliding, and twirling should feel all the more intense.

Frey can conjure bows, flaming swords, fireballs, and other spells that deal elemental damage in Forspoken. One of the spells, Oubliette, allows Frey to form an enormous ball of water to trap enemies, attacking which deals area damage.

Aside from equipping different gear, Frey can also equip nail paints (the equivalent of rings in traditional RPGs), all of which offers extra stats buff.

Forspoken is shaping up to be an ambitious game, one that's heavily reflected in its unique combat and traversal tools. If the DualSense implementations are done right, Forspoken could turn out to be a truly special experience though fans have to wait for a little while before they get their hands on it.
