Can Mega Gyarados Be Shiny In Pokémon GO?

Pokémon GO Trainers are days away from the first in-game event, Evolving Stars, which is set to continue exploring Cosmog’s storyline with new content and activities. Taking a break from this event is the upcoming Mega Raid Day, featuring the hybrid Dark/Water-type Pokémon, Gyarados.

With the Raid Day happening during the Evolving Stars event, the burning question is if there is a chance Trainers can encounter its Shiny form in-game. This guide details whether a Shiny Gyarados will be available during the Mega Gyarados Raid Day for Pokémon GO.

Can Gyarados Be Shiny In Pokémon GO?

The first Raid Day event for October 2022 in Pokémon GO is set to feature the iconic Dark/Water-type Pokémon, Gyarados. With the Raid Boss arriving soon in-game, Trainers will be happy to know that Gyarados can be Shiny in the Pokémon GO limited-time Raid event, with Mega Gyarados appearing more often in Raids.

Gyarados will appear in its dedicated Raid Day, scheduled for 8th October 2022 in Pokémon GO. During the Mega Gyarados Raid Day, which will run between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. local time, Trainers will encounter the Mega evolution of the Dark/Water-type Pokémon more frequently in Raid encounters.

The limited-time event will have a few key bonuses, including receiving five extra Raid Passes when spinning Photo Discs at Gyms. And as mentioned earlier, there’s also a chance that Trainers will encounter a Shiny version of Gyarados.

The Pokémon was last featured as a Raid Boss during the Mega Raids from the Season of Discovery update in June 2021. If Trainers didn’t manage to defeat Gyarados during the previous Mega Raid event, the upcoming Raid should present an ideal opportunity to try once again.

Since the Mega Raid Day event lasts for a limited time in-game, Trainers can begin preparing for this terrifying encounter by ensuring they have the best counters against Mega Gyarados’ attacks. In addition, they should check their inventory for enough PokéBalls, or Ultra Balls, which doubles their chance of acquiring a new Pokémon.

Ultra Balls can be obtained in a few ways in Pokémon GO: firstly, after leveling up to Level 20, Trainers will gain 20 free Ultra Balls. They are also received as a reward between Levels 20 through 40. Otherwise, Trainers can get Ultra Balls by spinning Photo Discs; considering that they can gain Raid Passes, it may be worth spinning for this Raid event.

The Mega Gyarados Raid Day will coincide with the Evolving Stars event between 5th October and 11th October 2022 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time. Lastly, they can acquire Gyarados Mega Energy as a reward for completing a Field Research Task for the Evolving Stars event.
