You don't need binoculars to spot a good deal. Blackwake, from developer Mastfire Studios, is completely free to keep now on Steam, making quite the splash. We aren't going to beat around the bush here. You can navigate to the Blackwake page on Steam and click on "Play Game" to add it to your library and claim it as your own.

For those who've never heard of Blackwake, well, it is described as a multiplayer naval FPS focusing on cooperation and teamwork, so get your friends together! It's quite an enjoyable experience judging by the 24,887 Steam reviews, which are, on average, "Very Positive." You can, after all, sink enemy ships, board them, fire cannons, and slash people with swords!

  • Fire cannons, sink ships or board them with FPS combat
  • 54 Players, small and large ships. Crews up to 13 players
  • Maintain your ship, make repairs, reload & resupply cannons
  • A large selection of weapons to snipe, slice and blow away nasty pirates
  • Captain a vessel through nomination, issue orders to yer' crew & fight tactically on the sea
  • 3 Game modes of TDM, Siege (fort attack/defend) & Capture the Booty

Since the game is completely free, it is definitely worth checking out, especially if you are a bit bored of Sea of Thieves and not quite impressed with the upcoming Skull & Bones.

The game's download size is rather small at just 4 GB, according to its Steam page. You must have Windows 10 or later to play Blackwake on Steam. Below, you can find the PC system requirements (specs) your gaming rig has to meet to play.

  • Processor: i5 2400, FX-6300
  • Memory: 10 GB RAM
  • Graphics: R9 270, GTX 660
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 4 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: This is to play the game on lowest settings with medium shadows at around 60FPS@1080p resolution.

  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: R9 290, GTX 970
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

  • Additional Notes: This is to play the game on High settings at 60FPS@1080p resolution. More CPU power is required on larger servers with more players. Newer i7 CPU's should handle the game easily.

How Long Will Blackwake Stay Free?

From the looks of it, Blackwake is now permanently free. Developer  Mastfire Studios did not give any indication to the contrary. We do know for sure that if you add Blackwake to your Steam library right now, it is yours to keep and play at your leisure.
