We explain how you can find a place with plenty of tomes in Dragon's Dogma 2 and NPC Malcolm to complete the Caged Magistrate questine.

During my Dragon's Dogma 2 review period, one questline that really frustrated me was The Caged Magistrate, as I first couldn't find Waldhar, and then I couldn't find "a place with plenty of tomes." To help Arisen, who is also struggling, I've compiled a step-by-step guide.

Spoiler warning: Be aware that there are spoilers for the Caged Magistrate quest and The Heel of History quests.

This guide for the Dragon's Dogma 2 Caged Magistrate quest explains how you can find Malcolm for the Heel of History quest, then the "place with plenty of tomes," and then finally rescue Waldhar.

Once you get the Heel of History quest, you are on the right track. Captain Brant will direct you to The Gracious Hand (Slums area), where you will speak to Kendrick. Make some donations (coins or food) to Kendrick, and he will set you on the task of finding a boy named Malcolm.

You must speak to the other children around the area until you are pointed towards the Gracious Hands vaults. At this point, Kendrick will open the vault, and you will both enter the mini-dungeon, as marked on the map with red below.

After just a bit of exploring, you will find Malcolm safe and sound!

Once you've found Malcolm, allow the young boy to show you a hidden library, following him through the Gracious Hand vaults.

It only takes a couple of minutes, and you will finally find the hidden library, also known as "a place with plenty of tomes" in Dragon's Dogma 2. As you can see from the image above, one of my Pawns was so excited that it got stuck!

Completing The Caged Magistrate Quest in DD2

Now that you've found the "place with tomes" and rescued Malcolm, it's time to finally complete The Caged Magistrate quest in Dragon's Dogma 2. It's been a long and frustrating journey, but you have one more step left to go.

You must return to Waldhar in Gaol Tower and help him escape. Our suggestion is that you enter Vernworth Castle Gaol Tower through the location as per the image above, opposite the Slums area on the cliffside.  Run up a few flights of stairs and then stop, noting the guards patrolling the prison cell area.

Wait for them to turn from where you are looking through the gate and start walking left. Then, you can run towards the first pillar and slowly follow behind them. As they turn around, so should you, as Waldhar's cell is located right at the end (on your left from where you came in).

Tell Waldhar about the place with tomes you've found, and then guide the NPC out of Vernworth Castle Gaol Tower. Your last step is to speak to Captain Brant again, informing him of your success in freeing Waldhar, thereby completing Dragon's Dogma 2's The Caged Magistrate quest.
