While we haven’t had news on the PlayStation 5 since its initial unveiling in June, Sony has released details on compatible accessories for the system.

In a blog post, Sony confirmed PlayStation 4 DualShock controllers won’t be compatible with PlayStation 5 games.

“We believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller,” the post reads.

The PS4 controller won’t be entirely useless however on PS5, as you’ll be able to use them for supported PS4 games on the new system.

The company also confirmed a number of other peripherals which will continue to work on PS5, including officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks.

Platinum and Gold wireless headsets, along with third-party headsets which connect via USB port or audio jack, will also work on PS5.

In what’s likely a relief to many, the PS Move Motion controllers and PS VR Aim controller will be compatible with PS5 too.

While the PS4’s PlayStation Camera will work on PS5, it will require you to use a new adapter which will be made available to PS VR users for free - with details to be announced soon on how to claim the adapter.

It’s strongly rumoured another PlayStation 5 event will take place in August, with both Sony and Microsoft yet to announce pre-order details or pricing for their systems.

While it’s not exactly surprising PS4 controllers wouldn’t work with PS5 games, it’s another indication of Sony’s next-gen ethos of establishing a significant upgrade for the PS5 experience - in contrast to Microsoft’s more open approach.
