Atelier Ryza 3 Synthesis System Explained

Atelier Ryza 3 is the third and final entry in the heart-warming Ryza trilogy of the Atelier series. Underneath its endearing personality are mechanically complex gameplay systems that may be a little difficult to get into, especially for someone new to the franchise.

The Synthesis system is the heart of all gameplay mechanics in Atelier Ryza 3. It's also what primarily separates Atelier games from other modern JRPGs. Understanding how Synthesis works is essential to get better at the game. As such, here's our guide explaining everything about the Synthesis system in Atelier Ryza 3.

Simply put, the Synthesis system in Atelier Ryza 3 lets you craft new items, consumables, weapons, and more. However, just putting the ingredients in a cauldron won't do the trick. The Synthesis system lets you customize various aspects of the end product before you craft it.

The Synthesis menu works like a skill tree. If you insert the appropriate material in a particular slot, you unlock adjacent slots to add more materials and craft even more powerful items.

Every item you craft has at least three slots. These are Effects, Traits, and Quality

Effects slots let you add effects with unique passive buffs that increase the potency of the items in combat. Trait slots let you add materials whose traits you want to replicate in the items you are crafting. Traits also provide passive buffs, but they are not necessarily combat-focused.

Super Traits are sort of legendary Traits. These are hard to come by, so make sure you use them in crafting items that will be more important to you. The Quality slots let you add materials that increase the quality of the item you're crafting.

Not every material is suited for every Effect slot. Only insert materials that have the same elemental type as the effect.

Some recipes can be synthesised into more than one item. In such instances, you will come across an extra Recipe slot, in which, if you insert the appropriate materials, you can craft a completely new item.

If you find all these slots intimidating, you can also use the game's Auto-Add Materials system to automatically add the right materials in these slots to craft the best possible item.

And that's pretty much the gist of Synthesis in Atelier Ryza 3.
