Transformers: Reactivate is yet another game announced at The Game Awards on 8 December 2022. This latest reveal follows the announcement of a seventh installment to the Transformers film series, Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, which has seemingly taken over the entertainment space. But now, it seems the franchise is taking over the world of video games, too!
Transformers: Reactivate is currently being developed by Splash Damage (who you might know from projects like Brink) in collaboration with Hasbro Inc. The game will release as a 1-4 player co-op action title across consoles and PC platforms. While a firm release date is not available, an open beta is scheduled for sometime next year, so you shouldn't wait too long to try the title out.
In the game, players will take control of "some of their favorite characters; unique, weighty, and powerful, seamlessly converting between vehicle and bot form as they battle The Legion; the greatest threat the Autobots have ever faced." Splash Damage's Chief Executive, Richard Jolly, had this to say:
Growing up with G1 TRANSFORMERS in the '80s means it'll always hold a special place in my heart, it's both an honour and a privilege to work with such a beloved franchise. We know fans have been waiting a long time for a new TRANSFORMERS game on consoles and pc, and we're going to give them the experience they deserve.
It's worth noting that the Transformers franchise has a rather storied history with video games, and not only the standard movie tie-ins, either. In particular, there are titles such as Transformers: War For Cybertron, Transformers Prime, and more. That said, we can't wait to see what Splash Damage will cook up ahead of Transformers: Reactivate's official release (hopefully) in 2023.
