Epic Games announced they are launching Performance Mode for Fortnite which will be an option in-game from the 15th December. This update is for players with older specs or those looking to maximise FPS and it boasts lower memory usage, the ability to reduce the game’s file size, as well as increase FPS.<\/p>\n

Performance Mode can be accessed and enabled or disabled through the in-game settings and will be available as opt-in for most users, with support only for Battle Royale and Creative Mode at first.<\/p>\n

A prompt will appear for users running on less powerful hardware, offering Performance Mode as an option to enhance their gameplay and framerate.<\/p>\n

With this mode, players can opt-out of high-resolution textures which can lighten the load on their hard drive, freeing up to 14GB and have a smaller Fortnite game size of only 17.32GB.<\/p>\n

To do so, follow these steps below, provided by The Fortnite Team’s article<\/a>:<\/p>\n

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher.<\/li>\n
  2. Click on Library.<\/li>\n
  3. Locate Fortnite and click on the three dots next to it.<\/li>\n
  4. Click on Options.<\/li>\n
  5. Check the box next to Use High-Quality Textures.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The team also provided us with a before and after Performance Mode comparison, showing us example specs and the massive enhancements in FPS this new mode brings with the devs reporting an over 50% increase in FPS on low-end machines.<\/p>\n

    There is no information yet but if top-end hardware can get anywhere near a 50% increase in FPS there will be many happy comp players in the coming days and weeks.<\/p>\n
