This year’s Worlds song has been released, with Cailin Russo and Chrissy Costanza providing the vocals for Phoenix, giving League of Legends fans a very different vibe from Worlds 2018’s hit Rise.

The video dropped last night following the conclusion of the 2019 World Championship Play-In which saw Clutch Gaming, DAMWON Gaming, Hong Kong Attitude and Splyce qualify for the stacked Group Stage.

Opening with Song “Rookie” Eui-jin stood in an empty subway train looking at his phone while strange glowing ‘glitches’ shoot out and grow around him, a strange figure made out of the glitch material stares through the door at him before transforming into the Champion Lissandra, causing Rookie to do the same and be transported to an unfamiliar dueling ground in Ionia.

We hear the first lyics ‘What are you willing to lose? ‘ as we see G2 Esports bot laner Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard and his own glitch clone walking towards two PCs in the middle of a warehouse filled with glowing eyes glancing around the room, with them both turning into Irelia and preparing to face off against each other.

A press conference featuring Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok sees the legendary mid laner’s hand get slowly consumed by the ‘glitch’ as cameras flashing and eager interviewers are then replaced by the stage on which Faker’s Karma launches an attack on the clone version of the Champ.

Each pair of Champions then duke it out as the song asks ‘are you gonna die today or make it out alive?’ and states ‘you gotta conquer the monster in your head and then you’ll fly Fly, Phoenix, fly’.

With the alternate versions of themselves gaining the upper hand, representing crucial losses each of the players experienced as these Champions in the past, we see them take on more of the unexplained energy around them, ‘conquering the monster in their heads’.

As the tide turns in their favour and Caps’ clone splits in half down the middle in a haze of scrawled messages saying ‘EZ’, ‘Give up’ and ‘Free’.

As they defeat their opponents, we then cut to people walking in the streets as Caps, Faker and Rookie are reborn into a bright glowing bodies after firing beams of light into the sky in Champion form.

We see the Worlds trophy and a blast of light above the arena as everyone makes their way towards it as the closing shot of the music video.
