{"id":1581,"date":"2019-10-28T15:06:12","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T15:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/snl-skit-chance-the-rapper-lol-esports-reporter"},"modified":"2024-07-19T21:20:42","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T21:20:42","slug":"snl-skit-chance-the-rapper-lol-esports-reporter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/league-of-legends\/snl-skit-chance-the-rapper-lol-esports-reporter","title":{"rendered":"SNL skit sees Chance the Rapper play unaware LoL esports reporter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an &#8216;update&#8217; from the 2017 skit that saw Chance the Rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8Ij4a6x_mPs\">as an ice hockey reporter<\/a>, this SNL skit sees his character attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/league-of-legends\">League of Legends<\/a> 2019 World Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The fictitious match that saw &#8216;Shadow Gaming&#8217; eliminate &#8216;Team Echo&#8217;, seemingly in reference to North American hopefuls Team Liquid being eliminated from the real tournament in the group stage by Invictus Gaming.<\/p>\n<p>As the usual esports reporter Jake Sussman is away to take his PSATs, NBA reporter &#8216;Lazlo Holmes&#8217; is standing in to cover the event with no idea what is going on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When they asked me to cover the League of Legends tournament, I assumed it was a basketball game with NBA legends&#8221; is his opening remark as he looks confused.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nbcsnl\/status\/1188308120390508544\">\n<blockquote align=\"center\" class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Lazlo Holmes reporting live from&#8230;<br \/>\nan eSports tournament? &#128126;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ChanceOnSNL?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ChanceOnSNL<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/N9h7Gb2wle\">pic.twitter.com\/N9h7Gb2wle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Saturday Night Live &#8211; SNL (@nbcsnl) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nbcsnl\/status\/1188308120390508544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 27, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>The skit goes on to poke fun at the confusing viewer experience for the uninitiated to esports and MOBAs particularly, lack of personality in many of the post-game interviews from players, odd names with no clear pronounciation and the phenomenon of very passionate fangirls that adore the players.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a joke about the huge prize pool awarded in many esports titles, stating there is &#36;7,000,000 in total up for grabs.
