Ozgur “Kanine” Alturk has come under scathing criticism after the former Rainbow Six: Siege professional tweeted a transphobic slur.<\/p>\n

Kanine, who is a well-known figure in the Siege community thanks in large part to the  “Kanine spots” that are named after him, made the comments while apparently tuning into the Six: Invitational, Siege’s world cup equivalent which is currently taking place in Paris.<\/p>\n

He tweeted: “I just turned on the R6 stream and there’s a tranny on the casting table, what has the world come to?” <\/p>\n

The tweet was directed at caster Em “CaptainFluke” Donaldson and his comments immediately came under fire from players, casters, and the community at large, a near-unanimous “f**k you” to the former pro.<\/p>\n

Those comments came from caster, Frankie Ward, who suggested that Kanine’s world was a “very sad and lonely place.” and FNATIC content creator Emil “BikiniBodhi” Tobias André who branded Kanine “trash” for his comments.<\/p>\n

With the Six: Invitational currently ongoing, there was perhaps no better time for the tournament organizers to make their view heard. Within an hour of Kanine’s tweet, Ubisoft’s esports Director Wei Yue thanked the pro for retiring in 2019, “saving us the trouble of banning you.”<\/p>\n

“R6 and R6 Esports have no place for sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any kind of bigotry,” he wrote in a tweet.<\/p>\n

Kanine’s comments were also referenced during the broadcast itself with the caster’s making clear that the spots that did bear his name will no longer.<\/p>\n

Kanine spots could be found in a number of Siege’s maps but most notably the balcony in Chalet’s and Oregon’s “AKs”.<\/p>\n

Since his tweet and the resulting backlash, a movement has sprung up to get the spot in Chalet renamed to Fluke in honour of the target of his comments something with which the Siege casting team quickly got on board with.<\/p>\n
