EA Sport&#8217;s football title has often given unearned buffs to defenders, allowing them to catch up to speedier attackers, much to the annoyance of the player base.<\/p>\n<p>Recent releases have seen to reverse this trend, and fast attackers have found that they can out-pace defenders in front of them. However, the developers clearly feel there is more to do and in the most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ea.com\/games\/fifa\/pitch-notes\/news\/pitch-notes-fifa-22-gameplay-deep-dive#defending\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FIFA 22 Pitch Notes<\/a>, which was released alongside a brand new gameplay trailer, they have revealed a brand new Explosive Sprint mechanic.<\/p>\n<div style=\"left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; max-width: 650px;\" data-ephox-embed-iri=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vLj-27T-SEQ\"><iframe style=\"top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vLj-27T-SEQ?rel=0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" srcdoc=\"&lt;style&gt;*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden}html,body{height:100%}img,span{position:absolute;width:100%;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto}span{height:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px\/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black}&lt;\/style&gt;&lt;a href=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vLj-27T-SEQ?autoplay=1&gt;&lt;img src=https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/vLj-27T-SEQ\/hqdefault.jpg alt='YouTube video thumbnail'&gt;&lt;span&gt;&#9654;&lt;\/span&gt;&lt;\/a&gt;\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The inclusion has got many worried if this is yet another &#8216;Bridge&#8217; or &#8216;Directional Nutmeg&#8217; skill move, both of which dominated the meta in FIFA 21 before they were subsequently nerfed.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Explosive Sprint in FIFA 22?<\/h2>\n<p>FIFA 22&#8217;s Gameplay Producer, Thomas Caleffi, explains exactly how it works in the latest Pitch Notes, and while all of this should be taken with a pinch of salt, fears that it could prove as broken as the Bridge once was might be unfounded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Explosive Sprint rewards timing and your intelligence on the ball, giving players a more noticeable acceleration when Sprint (R2\/RT) is pressed during the correct context,&#8221; explains Caleffi.<\/p>\n<p>A video posted alongside the description shows how it works in practice.<\/p>\n<div style=\"left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; max-width: 650px;\" data-ephox-embed-iri=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/qa7v3dZTnnU\"><iframe style=\"top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qa7v3dZTnnU?rel=0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" srcdoc=\"&lt;style&gt;*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden}html,body{height:100%}img,span{position:absolute;width:100%;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto}span{height:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px\/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black}&lt;\/style&gt;&lt;a href=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qa7v3dZTnnU?autoplay=1&gt;&lt;img src=https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/qa7v3dZTnnU\/hqdefault.jpg alt='YouTube video thumbnail'&gt;&lt;span&gt;&#9654;&lt;\/span&gt;&lt;\/a&gt;\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Crucially, this move isn&#8217;t just for attackers but defenders also, allowing those with the capabilities to explode forward for a short duration of time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Explosive Sprint can be triggered while already in possession of the ball (dribbling) or when moving without the ball, it cannot be activated during the ball approach,&#8221; says Caleffi.<\/p>\n<p>Also key is the way in which a player is facing, they must be facing and then running in a straight line, any deviation will only infer a partial effect.<\/p>\n<p>So imagine a scenario where a ball is played into the feet of Kylian Mbapp&eacute;, a defender in front of him but off to one side, would be perfect fodder for an Explosive Sprint, luring them into to a foul or leaving them for dead.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-figure\" contenteditable=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" contenteditable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/KqvbmsCiBNQ8mSlExJM3CrDDq7p488ut7OvEtgzIJU0\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzMi9GSUZBXzIyL01iYXBwZV8yLnBuZw\" alt=\"FIFA 22 Explosive Sprint\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption contenteditable=\"false\">Kylian Mbapp&eacute; will be quick off the mark in FIFA 22. (Picture: EA Sports)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On the flip side, unlike with last year&#8217;s Bridge or Directional Nutmeg which were far less situational, the Explosive Sprint looks to have a higher skill-ceiling and less ripe for abuse.<\/p>\n<p>The sprint also has an in-built cooldown as Caleffi explains:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To balance the mechanic, the Explosive Sprint only happens for a short duration when activated, then tapers off, going into a cooldown period during which it cannot be activated again until it ends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This feature is just one of a number detailed in the latest Pitch Notes, one of the most detailed ever seen before the release of that year&#8217;s game with seemingly every facet of the game expected to get a major overhaul.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Read more: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/fifa-21\/fifa-22-ones-to-watch-predictions-start-date-otw-cards-ultimate-edition-ratings\">FIFA 22 Ones to Watch predictions: Start date, OTW cards, and ratings<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whether that proves to be true is much less certain, with EA and their yearly sports titles often accused of promising much more than they deliver.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FIFA has always had a speed problem.
