There’s a whole lot to love about Diablo 2 Resurrected, and the game should be considered a remaster, not a remake. As such, gameplay elements remain the same as the original but Blizzard has made the game more accessible to everyone and even added previously ladder-exclusive Runewords as well as Horadric Cube recipes to singleplayer. It is clear the developers are open to quality-of-life improvements but there is one requested aspect they are not touching just yet; how loot drops work.

Diablo 2 Resurrected loot system: A chance for personal loot?

Diablo 3 does the personal loot system very well. For those who are unaware, a personal loot system simply means that specific items drop for each player, and other players can’t pick up drops meant for you.

In comparison, the original Diablo 2 and Resurrected uses a universal loot system. This means if an item drops, everyone in a match clicks as quickly as they possibly can to pick it up first.

Many believe the universal loot system in Diablo 2 Resurrected is perfect the way it is. It was a huge part of the original game, and incentivised trading with others built friendships, and also destroyed them.

Farming for days on end for a specific piece of loot, only for someone in your group to pick it up first (even though they can’t use it) and proceeding to log off was a frustrating issue in the original game. In Diablo 2 Resurrected, players can expect more of the same, and we fear that trolling could become a big issue.

As you can see from the tweet above, the executive producer on Diablo 2 Resurrected, Rod Fergusson, confirmed there will be no personal loot system at launch.

Rod Fergusson does, however, give fans who don’t prefer the universal loot system some hope. While a lot of fans would say a personal loot system has no place in Diablo 2 Resurrected, one has to remember that latency or if you play a melee or range class can even affect chances of picking up a piece of loot first; not exactly fair, right?
