{"id":21736,"date":"2021-09-09T16:04:38","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T16:04:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/riot-confirms-reykjavik-as-hosts-for-worlds-2021"},"modified":"2024-07-19T13:32:58","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T13:32:58","slug":"riot-confirms-reykjavik-as-hosts-for-worlds-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/league-of-legends\/riot-confirms-reykjavik-as-hosts-for-worlds-2021","title":{"rendered":"Riot confirms Reykjav\u00edk as hosts for Worlds 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Riot Games has confirmed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/league-of-legends\/how-to-watch-worlds-2021-all-teams-qualified-format-venues-prize-pool-and-more\">2021 League of Legends World Championship<\/a> will be held in Reykjav&iacute;k, Iceland, after many reports targeting the European country as the tournament&rsquo;s host in the last few days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lolesports.com\/article\/worlds-2021-location-and-format-announcement\/blt52ec273a991d3261?linkId=100000066455813\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Through a press release<\/a> on the LoL Esports website, Riot&#8217;s global esports division disclosed some of the reasons that led to this decision, with the main being concerns about the rise in infections of COVID-19 and its Delta variant.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;After close collaboration with European authorities and Riot Games&rsquo; trusted risk assessment and safety partners, Worlds 2021 is headed to Reykjavik, Iceland, [where we] successfully hosted<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/league-of-legends\/rng-are-2021-mid-season-invitational-champions-taking-down-dwg-kia-in-five-games\"> the Mid-Season Invitational this past May<\/a> at the Laugardalsh&ouml;ll without a live audience, which resulted in zero COVID-19 cases among players, staff, and partners,&rdquo; the announcement reads.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-figure\" contenteditable=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" contenteditable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/m26GgOhFbrc9z2q4b9Jgo9soBKOKHIwCRCHm35gaHz8\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzMi9MZWFndWVfb2ZfTGVnZW5kcy9Fc3BvcnRzL1dvcmxkczIwMjFIb3N0c19pbnNpZGVfMS5qcGc\" alt=\"Laugardalsh&ouml;ll Worlds 2021\" width=\"1024\" height=\"497\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption contenteditable=\"false\">The Laugardalsh&ouml;ll is now set to host Worlds 2021, after a successful Mid-Season Invitational. (Picture: Riot Games)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Unlike MSI 2021, the stage for Worlds 2021 will be set in the newly refurbished Hall A at the Laugardalsh&ouml;ll indoor sporting arena, the same one that hosted the Valorant Masters Reykjav&iacute;k <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/valorant\/vct-masters-2-sentinels-sweep-fnatic-and-dominate-first-valorant-lan-event\">where Sentinels was crowned champion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Riot has also confirmed that to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved in hosting, producing, and competing at the event, Worlds 2021 will not host a live audience while continuing to use guidance from various health organizations and local and national authorities to prioritize everyone&#8217;s safety.<\/p>\n<p>The confirmed dates for all phases of the event are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Play-Ins<\/strong>: 5-9th October<\/li>\n<li><strong>Groups<\/strong>: 11-13th and 15-18th October<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quarterfinals<\/strong>: 22nd-25th October<\/li>\n<li><strong>Semifinals<\/strong>: 30th-31st October<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finals<\/strong>: 6th November<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the situation, Worlds 2021 is expected to be a success for the&nbsp;League of Legends competitive scene, as Riot confirmed the MSI 2021 was the most successful to date, with the final match between DWG KIA and Royal Never Give Up hitting a record-breaking MSI peak viewership of 23 million, and an average minute audience (AMA) of 10 million.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-figure\" contenteditable=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" contenteditable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/zQudhM7aG_J_TUbQy1JTF3ShljxH00yxH6jy3Ly09zk\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzMi9MZWFndWVfb2ZfTGVnZW5kcy9Fc3BvcnRzL1dvcmxkczIwMjFfaW5zaWRlXzEuanBn\" alt=\"League of Legends Worlds 2020 champions DAMWON Gaming\" width=\"1024\" height=\"703\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption contenteditable=\"false\">League of Legends Worlds 2020 champions, DAMWON Gaming.
