We were all fooled after everybody referred to the next Rocket League<\/a> Championship Series as RLCS 11. Following the lengthiest and most rewarding season to date, RLCS X (which ran campaigns numerically from 1 to 9), it was expected that Psyonix would continue the numerical season naming convention. The only debate was whether they would be consistent in keeping with the roman numerals naming convention, or not.<\/p>\n

Now that it’s all said and done: the Rocket League Championship Series will no longer include numerical numbering, as they announce the 2021 – 2022 season. Kicking off in mid-October and wrapping up in late July of next year, this switch feels only natural to a year-round 10-month long season.<\/p>\n

RLCS drops number indicator ahead of its 2021-2022 season<\/h2>\n

When asked about the change, the Director of Esports at Psyonix and Epic Games, Clifford Shoemaker, said that there wasn’t any need to tally the number of seasons as they go by.<\/p>\n

Shoemaker said: “We realized we don’t need a season indicator,” and acknowledged how traditional sports like the NBA and the NFL  start and end their season without one.<\/p>\n

Clifford Shoemaker has a long history with traditional esports and his expertise, which exceeds 15 years with ESPN, has earned him a chair in directing car soccer into the future.<\/p>\n

It was also noted that fans, players and casters do not have to include the year mentioning the league. “Refer to it as the<\/em> RLCS.” Now, that sounds sexy, don’t you think?<\/p>\n
