Exciting times are ahead for Overwatch fans, both in terms of their competitive scene and the general community, as the PvP component of the sequel is closer than what everyone anticipated, with OWL 2022 confirmed to be played in an early build of Overwatch 2 this upcoming April.

On top of a switch to 5v5, new game modes, and heroes, Blizzard previously confirmed old characters would get a visual overlook, as well as complete reworks for certain ones, including Sombra and Bastion.

The pair have been subject to a lot of changes throughout the years, but have stood out for either being too powerful, in the case of the Mexican hacker, or simply not good enough besides super-low ELO, like the bullet-spraying tank.

Finally, during the Overwatch League 2022 grand finals, Blizzard presented massive changes to both of them. Let’s not beat around the bush and break them down.

First up, Sombra’s hacking abilities have been massively retooled. While previously, they were focused on disabling opponent cooldowns, now that effect will only last one second, the new component is now a wallhack, which reveals enemies to both Sombra and her teammates for the duration of the hack.

In order to make Sombra a more active damage-dealer, Blizzard decided to add a passive ability that lets her do 50% more damage to hacked targets.

Her Ultimate ability, EMP, will work differently now, as it won’t remove all shields, but rather, do up to 40% of damage to opponents based on their current HP.

Finally, two of the biggest changes are that Sombra’s hack is on a three-second cooldown and that she can hack opponents while in stealth mode.
