During the course of 2021, Riot Games has brought several interesting releases to League’s extensive roster of champions, all focused on Sentinels of Light and the Ruination, with the mighty and fabled Ruined King, Viego<\/a>, taking center stage this season.<\/p>\n

Now with the 2021 World Championship<\/a> just around the corner, and with the offseason and all its features soon to be revealed, it’s time to start looking at some of the new faces that will shake the Summoner’s Rift in 2022.<\/p>\n

Via their latest Champion Roadmap<\/a> update, Ryan “Reav3” Mireles, Riot’s lead champion producer, began by talking about the change in plans Riot originally raised in late 2020, proposing the release of a champion for each role during the year, and that in the end was ruled out by certain factors.<\/p>\n

Despite this, the concepts and archetypes of two new champions were already in development, so after their readjustment in the release dates, these will arrive in League of Legends soon.<\/p>\n

By the beginning of 2022 Season, players will be able to experiment with a brand new bot lane marksman, who has been charging up and is rearing to finally get on the Rift, re-exploring the role of the basic attack in a marksman champion’s kit, and seeing if it could completely turn their purpose around.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to create a kinetic marksman who’s always on the move, pulsing with sparky determination. A champ who plays the game at a machine-gun pace and brings the feeling of a shooter game to the roster,” commented Reav3.<\/p>\n

This new marksman will be a champion in constant movement, adding the feeling of an FPS through the basic attacks of his ray gun and his abilities, which will be unique in his type within League of Legends.<\/p>\n

For the second champion revealed, this will be a support with a big relationship around technology and money, so it’s very likely that he comes from the Piltover or Zaun region.<\/p>\n

Riot highlighted this by talking about his desire of discarding it like trash when you’re done, in the sense of using and discarding it, in addition to making mentions to put enemies against, as if it were a type of Charm like the one used by champions like Ahri.<\/p>\n

Its release is scheduled for the first half of 2022, arriving a few patches after the release of the new shooter, also being the first support-role champion since Rell’s launch in 2020.<\/p>\n

The surprises from Riot didn’t end there, as new sketches of Udyr’s rework were also revealed, showing an imposing and more natural appearance, with a more “druidic focus” and less “sharp weapon.”<\/p>\n

“In Udyr’s last dev blog, we shared our idea of evolving Udyr’s theme by making each of his stances associated with a Freljordian demigod. Your response was overwhelmingly positive, which got us even more excited by the prospect of connecting Udyr to Runeterra in a much stronger way, so we’ve decided to lock in this direction.”<\/p>\n

Riot’s next Champion Roadmap update is set to be released at the start of next year, including more details on the new villainous support, the next VGU planned after Udyr, as well as an overwhelming new jungler from the Void.<\/p>\n
