{"id":22499,"date":"2021-09-28T05:29:45","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T05:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/activision-blizzard-to-pay-18-million-settlement-over-discrimination-lawsuit"},"modified":"2021-09-28T06:53:30","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T06:53:30","slug":"activision-blizzard-to-pay-18-million-settlement-over-discrimination-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/video-games\/activision-blizzard-to-pay-18-million-settlement-over-discrimination-lawsuit","title":{"rendered":"Activision Blizzard to pay $18 million settlement over discrimination claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Video game behemoth, Activision Blizzard, has agreed to an &#36;18 million settlement with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) after a civil-rights complaint was filed at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, regarding allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination at the company.<\/p>\n<p>According to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/09\/27\/technology\/activision-blizzard-eeoc-settlement.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NYT report<\/a>, Activision was accused of gender-based discrimination after &#8220;paying female employees less than their male counterparts&#8221; and by &#8220;retaliating against employees who complained about unfair treatment.&#8221; Activision subsequently announced its agreement to settle with the federal employment agency in a consent decree, issued in a <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.activision.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/activision-blizzard-commits-expanded-workplace-initiatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">press release<\/a> published on 27th September.<\/p>\n<h2>Activision Blizzard to pay &#36;18 million settlement over discrimination claim<\/h2>\n<p>In its official statement, Activision Blizzard announced their commitment &#8220;to create an &#36;18 million fund to compensate and make amends to eligible claimants.&#8221; The company noted, however, that this agreement is subject to approval by the court.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-figure\" contenteditable=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" contenteditable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/Kqr8NY7FX00ugginCGDGnFWKQyufcp3kyJCsivHHhYk\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzMi9WR19JbmR1c3RyeS9BY3RpdmlzaW9uX3N1ZWQvYWN0aXZpc2lvbi5qcGc\" alt=\"Activision Blizzard to pay &#36;18 million settlement over discrimination claim\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption contenteditable=\"false\">Activision Blizzard to pay &#36;18 million settlement over discrimination claim. We thank the EEOC for its constructive engagement as we work to fulfil our commitments to eradicate inappropriate conduct in the workplace,&#8221; Kotick added.<\/p>\n<p>The NYT reported that the EEOC had been investigating Activision Blizzard for nearly 3 years.
