The Rocket League<\/a> Championship Series is back on track and the first upset for the region is already in the record books. New kids on the block, FaZe Clan, has taken down defending World Champions The General NRG in the North American Open Grand Finals.<\/p>\n

FaZe pushed the NRG boys to the limit after a back-and-forth set that ended 9-7 in overall games with the now champions winning two out of three series to complete the set.<\/p>\n

With the result, FaZe leads the region with 301 circuit points and takes home $30,000 in prize pool money as runner-ups NRG secure 2nd place and $20,000 for their performance.<\/p>\n

FaZe Clan: The new Big Four member in North America<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The red, white and black brand has had one of the most impressive runs for a first-time champion — finished the Swiss stage of the tournament 3-1, only dropping one series to XSET and entered the single-elimination bracket as the fourth seed.<\/p>\n

That, however, would only be the start of their historic run as they would run through the entirety of the so-called Big Four North American roster in surprising fashion: defeated G2 in the Swiss stage and took down Team Envy, Spacestation and NRG to become the Open Champions.<\/p>\n

This dominant run that took all but NRG’s series the distance was topped off by two superior performances against the eventual runner-ups winning the first and third matches without ever allowing a Game 7.<\/p>\n

NRG is already in mid-season form<\/strong><\/h3>\n

NRG entered the event as one of the favourites to take it home as their last participation brought them the region’s biggest Championship that replaced the annual LAN Worlds.<\/p>\n
