The quarterfinals round of Worlds 2021 has come to an end, and with this, the last representatives of the western leagues are now out of the biggest tournament of the year.<\/p>\n

Continuing with the dominance of the Korean teams in this World Championship, Gen.G demonstrated their individual strengths and the difference in competitive level in their series against Cloud9, who after a miracle run in Groups<\/a>, managed to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2018.<\/p>\n

Cloud9 began well but after some mistakes, Gen.G took advantage to essentially control proceedings from the first match.<\/p>\n

With an aggressive composition, C9 managed to stay in the fight within the mid lane, keeping active during the engages, but in the end, the Korean squad, powered up with the Baron’s buff, took the first point.<\/p>\n

For the second game, Cloud9 went for a risky composition focused on teamfights, with Malphite for Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami and Sylas for Luka “Perkz” Perković. However, Gen.G again knew how to punish both lanes to control the map once more, taking the first objectives as well.<\/p>\n

Although Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen tried to guide his team during the mid-game, the advantage of the LCK team was bigger than they thought and Cloud9 once again failed to overcome the tactically superior Gen.G.<\/p>\n

For the last map, Cloud9 dominated the early game, getting good ambushes in the top and mid lane, but despite this, Gen.G took the opportunity to secure the neutral objectives, staying strong in the game.<\/p>\n

The Korean squad forced two key teamfights to turn the match around, thanks to the great engages from Taemin “Clid” Kim over Zven. With both Baron and Dragon buffs in their possession, Gen.G didn’t have much trouble closing this final duel, ending the hopes of the North American team.<\/p>\n

With these results, Gen.G is the third representative from Korea to qualify for the Worlds 2021 semifinals<\/a>, making the possibility of having a final between LCK teams more than latent.<\/p>\n

Gen.G will now face LPL’s champion Edward Gaming<\/a> in a best-of-five series on 31st October, while the next phase of the tournament will kick off on 20th, with the historic rematch between DWG KIA and T1<\/a>.<\/p>\n
