Brandon Sanderson, an epic fantasy and science fiction author, best known for his “Mistborn”<\/em> series and for finishing Robert Jordan’s series, “The Wheel of Time<\/em>,” has revealed that he has been secretly working on a video game for several years now. In his yearly “State of the Sanderson<\/a>” blog post, Sanderson announced his secretive video game. <\/p>\n

The blog is divided into twelve parts covering all aspects of Sanderson’s work. It includes reviews of his previous work, insights into what he’s currently working on and even teasers on what can we expect from him in the future.<\/p>\n

In part five of the blog post, Sanderson focuses on his television, video game, and film projects. There, under “other projects”, the author disclosed that he has been actively involved in developing an unannounced video game “for years.”<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, he didn’t reveal any other details about what this game could be. Still, he did emphasise that it is not a game based on his properties, so if you were hoping for a Mistborn or The Stormlight Archive game, we are sorry to disappoint you.<\/p>\n

“[It is] something new that I built with them. It’s a game company many of you will have heard of, but probably not the one you’re thinking about right now. Not that other one either,” Sanderson wrote. “So, commence speculation!”<\/p>\n

This video game will be Sanderson’s first “real” entry into the video game industry, although he did write a novella called “Infinity Blade: Awakening” earlier in 2011.<\/p>\n

Infinity Blade: Awakening was based on Infinity Blade, the 2010 action RPG developed by Chair Entertainment and Epic Games. Also, in 2021, his Mistborn character Kelsier appeared in Fortnite as a playable skin.<\/a><\/p>\n

However, as Sanderson suggested, we can only speculate on what this game might be and with which studio he has been working at this time.<\/p>\n

The author mentioned that it was “something new that [he] built with them,” which might mean that he had a similar level of involvement as George R. R. Martin with Elden Ring<\/a>. There, Martin was tasked with building the universe and lore of the game’s world rather than the game’s main story.<\/p>\n

Our safest assumption would be that it is an RPG game and one set in some epic or high fantasy universe. Although Sanderson’s previous short forays into the world of video games were connected to Epic Games, his words suggest that he is probably not working with them this time around. <\/p>\n

Whatever this project is, Sanderson has proven to be a talented and prolific writer with excellent world-building skills, an essential trait for video game writing. So, we can’t wait to learn more about this project in 2022.<\/p>\n
