Even if you aren’t an American football history buff and just play the annual Madden titles<\/a> from EA a bit, you will know exactly who John Madden is. <\/p>\n The NFL legend, John Earl Madden, coach and sportscaster, is the namesake of the Madden franchise, and we regret to report that he has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 85.<\/p>\n John Madden, born on 10th April 1936, is synonymous with American football. As the head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1978 (winning the Superbowl in 1977) and winning 16 Sports Emmy Awards as a commentator, as well as being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his coaching career in 2006, he was an absolute legend.<\/p>\n The official Twitter account for the Madden video game franchise shared an image<\/a>, which you can view below.<\/p>\n
