The battle royale game genre is popular for successful titles like PUBG: Battlegrounds, Free Fire and Fortnite. However, many more have gone unnoticed across the various gaming platforms, with one of the most disastrous being Ubisoft’s Hyper Scape<\/a>, released in July 2020.<\/p>\n

The formula of Hyper Scape was unremarkable to competitor titles and saw players fighting in a battle for survival, to be the holder of the crown of victory. Sound familiar? Although it received praise for its graphics and unique map design, it was victim to mass criticism over its harrowing gameplay mechanics and unbalanced weapons.<\/p>\n

Followingly, Ubisoft announced that Hyper Scape would be shutting down for good on 27th April 2022.<\/p>\n

While its advanced tech and large calibre weapons made it somewhat similar to Apex Legends, Ubisoft tried to add a fresh twist through the implementation of Hacks (special abilities)<\/a>. Additionally, the map had a novel feature that wouldn’t close around like in other games but instead disabled zones randomly until a player was crowned as the winner.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, after a good initial push in which thousands of players entered this virtual space, mainly due to the presence of various renowned content creators, this free-to-play battle royale will soon disappear.<\/p>\n

“We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of 28th April,” said Ubisoft in an official announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience, and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products,” the company further noted.<\/p>\n

Considering the small community of players currently survived by the game and the fact that it’s been less than two years since its official release, it’s safe to say that Hyper Scape has been a resounding failure that couldn’t take off.<\/p>\n

This was mainly due to tough competition, such as titles like Warzone dominating the market. Ubisoft also thanked the Hyper Scape community for all the support over the last few months, promising that the game’s legacy will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n

“To the Hyper Scape community, thank you for your passion and dedication to the world of Neo Arcadia both inside and outside of the game. Your devotion to the game we built will always be cherished,” they concluded.<\/p>\n

Although this may serve as a lesson for Ubisoft, if they venture into the market again, Hyper Scape showed some potential, at least in the beginning.<\/p>\n

So hopefully, we’ll be able to see something bigger and better from them in the future.<\/p>\n
