Many gamers in the West will be surprised by the fact that the online tactical first-person shooter, CrossFire, is one of the highest-grossing video games of all time and up until recently, it was the world’s most-played video game by player count.

That’s because this FPS, developed by Smilegate Entertainment, is predominately popular in the regions of East and Southeast Asia, particularly in South Korea and China, where the title boasts a huge player base.

The game has been available in Europe and NA since 2011, but it has been struggling to find a footing and it never really catch on.

But now, Microsoft, Remedy, and Smilegate are joining forces and bringing the game to consoles for the first time, giving it a second chance in the western market.

This time around it’s coming in the form of CrossfireX, and it’s bringing a single-player campaign with it, which you will need to pay for, but some fans are hoping for it to become available on Xbox Game Pass.

The original CrossFire game is a free-to-play title, which means that you can play the game completely free of charge, only with optional microtransactions which can also be grinded out.

This will remain similar for CrossfireX’s multiplayer component, which will essentially be the same thing as CrossFire.

All you need to do is to install the game on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, and you can start playing it, you don’t even need an Xbox Live subscription, because Xbox Live Gold is not required for online F2P multiplayer games since April 2021.
