Melee player.<\/p>\n<div id=\"traffective-ad-Content_1_857863\" style=\"display: none;\" class=\"Content_1\"><\/div>\n<p>After a poor showing at Genesis 7 where he failed to make top eight, Plup pulled off an incredible comeback at Smash Summit 9 in Los Angeles, California &#8211; making it all the way to the final after beating heavyweights Zain Naghmi and Joseph &acirc;&#128;&#156;Mang0&acirc;&#128;&#157; Marquez.<\/p>\n<p>Going up against Hungrybox&acirc;&#128;&#153;s Jigglypuff in the final, Plup managed to reset the bracket 3-1 in the first set &#8211; putting on a strong performance where he looked set to go all the way.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hungrybox vs Plup at Smash Summit 9\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/CY2gSx20GvbvwK-QRPGIEtGAnv1dePNvrFQ-s5NXVpo\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzL0h1bmdyeWJveF92c19QbHVwLmpwZw\" style=\"width: 600px; height: 340px;\" width=\"1024\" height=\"580\" loading=\"lazy\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:11px;\">Hungrybox versus Plup in the final&nbsp;(Picture: Twitch)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the second set, Hungrybox took an early lead winning both the first and second game. Plup showed signs of a comeback winning the third, but it wasn&acirc;&#128;&#153;t quite enough, with Hungrybox winning the final 3-1.<\/p>\n<p>Hungrybox bags&nbsp;the majority of a &#36;69,000 prize pool, and following his win made a public plea to Nintendo encouraging them to support the Smash competitive scene.<\/p>\n<p>&acirc;&#128;&#156;I really do wish if anyone from Nintendo corporate is watching this right now, if anyone is seeing the amount of excitement these sets can get, just give Melee a chance,&#8221; Hungrybox said on stream.<\/p>\n<p>&acirc;&#128;&#156;Even if it&acirc;&#128;&#153;s just Ultimate, support the Ultimate scene, support the Smash scene in general.<\/p>\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/clips.twitch.tv\/SteamyCogentSkunkFeelsBadMan\"><\/div>\n<p>&acirc;&#128;&#156;Nintendo I love you guys but you&acirc;&#128;&#153;re the only one not putting in resources into the scene, look at Capcom Cup, look at that celebration, look at Fortnite, this is the step you&acirc;&#128;&#153;re missing and if you did that the culture and the appreciation you guys would receive would be bar none unlike anything you&acirc;&#128;&#153;ve received.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope you&acirc;&#128;&#153;re listening and I know this is a shot in the dark, but please support Smash tournaments.&acirc;&#128;&#157;<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo&#8217;s lack of support for&nbsp;Smash Bros. events has come under closer scrutiny in recent months, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/smash-ultimate\/smash-bros-ultimate-winner-evo-japan-receives-no-cash-will-get-a-pro-controller-instead\">EVO Japan 2020 saw the Smash Ultimate winner receive a Switch Pro Controller<\/a> as the top prize instead of cash.<\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s likely Nintendo will simply ignore Hungrybox&#8217;s plea, having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kotaku.com.au\/2020\/01\/nintendos-president-explains-its-reluctance-to-fund-smash-bros-tournament-prizes\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">previously explained<\/a> their stance on the matter, it&#8217;s notable one of the biggest names in the competitive scene is actively calling them out on it &#8211; especially as Ultimate continues to be the biggest fighting game at tournaments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were a few surprise results at Smash Summit 9 too, with William &acirc;&#128;&#156;Leffen&acirc;&#128;&#157; Hjelte failing to make it to top eight after losing to
