Elden Ring includes plenty of items that players can acquire through farming, looting or defeating bosses. However, as some of these items are rare and valuable, they don’t provide much information or give you any clues on what to do next.

The Deathroot is an example of a rare essential item you’ll need before seeking out an NPC to begin a new questline. This Elden Ring guide details what you should know about the Deathroot, where to find it and how to use them.

The Deathroot is an item consumed by the Beast Clergyman for which its effects are rather damning. You can acquire the item during a quest after unlocking the Roundtable Hold.

First, locate the NPC, D, Hunter of the Dead, in Stormhill, who will provide you with a warning about a particular town that’s infected by death. He will mark this location on your map, which upon investigating, brings you to Summonwater Village in Limgrave.

Next, defeat the Tibia Mariner boss, which drops a Deathroot, before finding D nearby. After finding D, he’ll mark the location of a gateway.
