{"id":29909,"date":"2022-04-11T15:36:13","date_gmt":"2022-04-11T15:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/sony-kirkbi-2-billion-epic-games-metaverse-investment"},"modified":"2024-07-19T12:47:46","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T12:47:46","slug":"sony-kirkbi-2-billion-epic-games-metaverse-investment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/video-games\/sony-kirkbi-2-billion-epic-games-metaverse-investment","title":{"rendered":"Sony and KIRKBI invest $2 billion to build Epic Games&#8217; Metaverse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an 11th April 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epicgames.com\/site\/en-US\/news\/sony-and-kirkbi-invest-in-epic-games-to-build-the-future-of-digital-entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">press release<\/a>, American game developer and publisher Epic Games announced a &#36;2 billion round of funding intended to &#8220;advance the company&rsquo;s vision to build the Metaverse and support its continued growth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Among the investors are Sony Group Corporation and private holding and investment company KIRKBI, the latter of which include the following subsidiaries: LEGO brand, Interlego AG, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, each party invested &#36;1 billion toward actualising Epic Games&#8217; vision, sharing in the common goal to &#8220;create new social entertainment&#8221; and explore &#8220;the connection between digital and physical worlds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This latest update comes just days after Epic Games announced a new long-term partnership with The LEGO Group to build a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/video-games\/epic-lego-metaverse-for-kids\">Metaverse for kids.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Epic Games receives &#36;2 billion in funding to build the Metaverse<\/h2>\n<p>Commenting on the investment, Sony Group Corporation&#8217;s president and CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, said, &#8220;As a creative entertainment company, we are thrilled to invest in Epic to deepen our relationship in the Metaverse field, a space where creators and users share their time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-figure\" contenteditable=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" contenteditable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/OvBq_dlMqK4QcPrmMVCwBm3NuuQ1cFQlayBn60KeMeo\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzMi9WR19JbmR1c3RyeS9lcGljL0xFR08tR1JPVVAuanBn\" alt=\"epic games lego metaverse for kids\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption contenteditable=\"false\">Epic Games has teamed up with the LEGO group to develop a Metaverse for kids.
