The Season of GO is in full swing after GO fest 2022 came to an end, and the Fossil Cup marks one of the first major themed cups on Pokémon GO this season. Like most themed cups in the GO Battle League though, there are rules that make the playing field unique.

The Fossil Cup comes right off the heels of Adventure Week, which allowed trainers to catch Fossil and Rock-type Pokémon from nearly every generation. Tyrunt and Amaura made their mobile debuts in the process. While these Pokémon are at the center of the new cup, there is a wide array to choose from in three different type classes.

What are the rules of the Fossil Cup in Pokémon GO?

Considering the Fossil Cup is a follow-up theme to the Adventure Week in Pokémon GO, it only makes sense that the cup would follow some of the same typing rules. In order to take part in the Fossil Cup, you can only use Pokémon that have Rock, Steel, or Water-typing.

Having one of three types required for use obviously limits the total pool of Pokémon, but it goes beyond just those three when dual types are taken into account. As long as a Pokémon has one of those three, it can have a second typing as well. For example, you can utilize options like Escavalier, Jellicent, or Lucario.
