Overwatch 2 servers<\/a> have been hit by not one but two DDoS attacks within its first 24 hours of launch. Initially, it was believed that the servers simply couldn’t handle the pressure of a free-to-play game of this magnitude releasing until Blizzard confirmed it was DDoS attacks causing the dropped connections and issues.<\/p>\n

DDoS stands for Distributed Denial-of-Service, and to put it in the simplest of terms, these types of attacks direct massive amounts of traffic to servers. In this case, Overwatch 2 servers were overwhelmed with more connection attempts than they could keep up with. Like in a traffic jam scenario, real players couldn’t get to their destination…an Overwatch 2 match.<\/p>\n

Since the launch of Overwatch 2, players have been stuck in long queues simply to get into the game. Once they made it to the menu, they were met by a connection error and had to start the process again.<\/p>\n
