If you are playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered<\/a> campaign, you’ve probably noticed Humvees here and there. This well-known military vehicle, officially called High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV; colloquial: Humvee), has been a part of many Call of Duty games, and especially the ones from the Modern Warfare series, since they depict contemporary battles and warfare. <\/p>\n

And although depicting real-life products for the purpose of art (which games surely are) is something that is legal and protected by law, lawers at the AM General didn’t think so, and so the company sued Activision back in 2017 over Humvees in Call of Duty games.<\/p>\n

And now, two and a half years later, Activision won and defended their right to use Humvees in their games.<\/p>\n

“If realism is an artistic goal, then the presence in modern warfare games of vehicles employed by actual militaries undoubtedly furthers that goal,” writes judge George Daniels in granting summary judgment in favour of Activision (via Hollywood Reporter<\/a>).<\/p>\n
