Video game company CD Projekt has confirmed that its upcoming title, The Witcher remake, will be an open-world game. Initially reported by Video Games Chronicle (VGC), the iconic 2007 title The Witcher will have some pretty cool new features in its upcoming remake version.

In a presentation this week, CD Projekt described the recently announced title as a “story-driven single-player open-world RPG, a modern reimagining of 2007’s The Witcher.” This note implies that The Witcher remake will likely be somewhat similar to the experience players received when playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, specific details about the game’s newly-implemented and changed features remain uncertain.

Although it’s a surprise CD Projekt aims to transform the older title into an open-world game similar to current, modern games, it’s understandable that the company seeks to make The Witcher remake somewhat familiar for players to play. That said, there are definitely going to be some people that wish The Witcher remake would stay true to its core, with the only alterations being improved graphics.

The Witcher remake will be “Rebuilt from the ground up” using Unreal Engine 5, which would significantly improve the title. According to VGC, The Witcher remake “is currently in the early stages of development at the Polish studio Fool’s Theory, where veteran Witcher series staff are involved. CD Projekt Red is providing full creative supervision.”

In addition, CD Projekt Red studio head and game director Adam Badowski expressed their statements, stating that “The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD Projekt Red. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.”
