King Kong fans, brace yourselves. DeVito ArtWorks, the company behind the original “King Kong Skull Island” property, recently announced an exciting partnership that will breathe new life into the iconic ape. The company has teamed up with GameMill Entertainment to create an all-new video game based on the beloved character, with the project currently in development for a variety of video game systems to be published by GameMill.<\/p>\n

Per a recent report by Licensing Magazine<\/a>, Andy Koehler, senior vice president of business development and licensing at GameMill Entertainment, said the company has a “long track record of bringing some of the world’s top franchises to life in the video game space.” Koehler added, “We are thrilled to partner with DeVito ArtWorks’ ‘King Kong of Skull Island’ and look forward to expanding and bringing the iconic Kong to life in gaming.”<\/p>\n

Joe DeVito, the owner of DeVito Artworks, also expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying, “I could not be more excited to be working with GameMill Entertainment’s talented team that will provide both King Kong fans and gamers the chance to experience King Kong’s primordial world in a gamified way.” This new game is just the latest addition to DeVito ArtWorks’ expanding King Kong licensing program, which includes VR arcade games, collectibles, comic books, and board games.<\/p>\n

But that’s not all. As reported by Deadline<\/a> last year, King Kong of Skull Island is also getting adapted into a King Kong live-action TV series for Disney+. According to the report, James Wan’s Atomic Monster is in the early development stages, which will be the first live-action series set in the Kong universe. The show is reportedly written by Paper Girls creator Stephany Folsom and will explore the mythology of King Kong’s origin story and the supernatural mysteries of his home based on IP from Merian C. Cooper’s original books and the new King Kong novelizations by Joe DeVito.<\/p>\n

All things aside, it’s worth noting that GameMill Entertainment has a reputation for creating games based on popular franchises, including Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and other partners like Paramount, NBC Universal, Sony Pictures, Cartoon Network, Disney, PGA Tour, and Discovery. However, their games have received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising their gameplay mechanics while others criticizing the lack of innovation. Regardless, this latest news has been a long time coming, with King Kong finally back and (hopefully) better than ever.<\/p>\n

The last appearance by King Kong was in the 2005 action-adventure game by Ubisoft, Peter Jackson’s King Kong, with the exception of the ape’s brief appearance in Call of Duty: Warzone’s Godzilla vs. Kong event<\/a> last year. Beyond that, the giant ape has been missing from the gaming world ever since. While we don’t yet know the genre or release date for this new game, fans of the character can rest assured that he will return soon. So whether you’re a fan of the films, comics, or games, it seems there’s something for everyone in this new wave of King Kong content.<\/p>\n

For those uninitiated, DeVito Artworks’ King Kong of Skull Island was an American-Australian monster film directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written by Dan Gilroy, Max Borenstein, and Derek Connolly, from a story by John Gatins. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Jing Tian, Toby Kebbell, John Ortiz, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Shea Whigham, and Thomas Mann.
