After years of speculation and anticipation, Valve has officially announced Counter-Strike 2. Thankfully, the game developers have made significant changes to the game’s tick rate system to provide a more seamless experience to the shooters. If you weren’t aware, one of the most important factors that affect the gameplay experience is the tick rate.

The tick rate is the frequency at which the game server updates the information about the game world and sends it to the players. In Counter-Strike, the default tick rate is 64 ticks per second. This means that the game server updates the game world 64 times per second and sends this information to the players. But that’s not the case anymore. Let us explain more about it.

Counter-Strike 2 won’t have 128 tick rate servers, and the game devs have officially confirmed it. But thanks to Counter-Strike 2’s sub-tick update, tick rate no longer matters for moving, shooting, or throwing.

As we all know, sub-tick updates are the heart of Counter-Strike 2. Previously, the server only evaluated the world in discrete time intervals (called ticks).

Thanks to Counter-Strike 2’s sub-tick update architecture, servers know the exact instant that motion starts, a shot is fired, or a ‘nade is thrown.
