Persona 5: The Phantom X is an upcoming Persona 5 spin-off game for PC and mobile devices. It’s a free-to-play gacha game with similar monetization mechanics like Hoyoverse’s Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

Much like the original, Persona 5: The Phantom X is a part high-school simulator and part dungeon-crawler with a flashy turn-based combat system. It looks and plays very similar to Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal, and you will bump into plenty of familiar faces on your journey.

However, it features a new protagonist and a story about finding corrupted individuals whose distorted thoughts and desires have manifested in Palaces (dungeons), and it’s up to you to defeat these individuals in their Palaces and make society better.

Long story short, it’s very much a Persona game but with a free-to-play structure like Genshin Impact. But is Persona 5: The Phantom X coming to the West?

18 August 2023: This article has been updated with all the latest info on Persona 5: The Phantom X's western release date.

Unfortunately, as of this writing, we do not know if Persona 5: The Phantom X will be released on Western continents, particularly in North America and Europe. Surprisingly, there’s no word on a Japanese release either.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is being developed by Black Wings Game Studio (based in China) and published by Perfect World Games. While Atlus (the developers of all Persona and Shin Megami games) is involved with this project, Back Wings Game Studio is primarily in charge of developing this game.

It’s important to know who’s developing Persona 5: The Phantom X since it explains why the reveal trailer had only Chinese subtitles. Furthermore, the early testing for the game that began on 29th March 2023 is also limited to China.
