If you cannot hold that weapon with one hand, dual-wielding it will give you diminishing returns in terms of damage.

If you have the stats to hold that weapon in one hand, then you can dual-wield that weapon. To do so, you will simply need to put that weapon in the off-hand slot and put another weapon in your main-hand slot. Dual-wielding will give you double damage, which can be critical when facing tough enemies. Dual-wielding will also give you faster debuff stacks if both of your weapons deal with the same kind of debuff. For example, dual-wielding katanas will give you even faster bleed stacks against the enemy, causing them to take bleed damage faster.

But be sure to dual-wield weapons that are of the same type. That means dual-wield katanas do not in one hand use a katana and another a whip.
