During the recent PlayStation Showcase, Bungie dropped a bombshell: they’re working on a brand-new sci-fi first-person shooter series called Marathon<\/a>, reviving the name from their 1996 release. But don’t be fooled, this is a fresh start for the franchise, promising an entirely new experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, the burning question: will Marathon be accessible to all players at launch, especially those on Xbox and PC? With Bungie being under Sony’s wing, it’s a valid concern. Keep reading, because we’re going to discuss the game’s release, and find out if Marathon is coming to Xbox and PC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Will Marathon be coming to Xbox and PC?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Let’s address the elephant in the room; Yes, Marathon will be available on the Xbox and PC platforms upon its release. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S, and PC<\/a>, offering cross-play and cross-save functionalities, making it a next-gen exclusive essentially. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is great news for many Bungie fans out there since the company was bought by Sony just recently and this game could have easily ended up as a Sony exclusive. So now that we know that players who own next-gen consoles or PCs will be getting their hands on this game, what exactly do we have to look forward to? <\/span><\/p>\n

The game shares its name with the Bungie 1996 title (and its sequels, Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinite), but the developers have made it clear that this game will be a brand-new experience. As they’ve stated on their official website<\/a> when covering the lore and what players will be doing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Simply put, Marathon stands as a PvP extraction shooter that offers the option to either embark on solo missions or team up with a squad of three. In this genre, exemplified by games like Escape from Tarkov, players partake in “runs” to gather equipment and reach extraction points, engaging in combat with other players along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meaning that all next-gen players will have total freedom to play this game, while sadly, the PS4 and other older-gen players are being left out of the group. <\/span><\/p>\n

While we still don’t know enough about the game to make a value judgment on whether or not it’s worth the price tag of owning a newer-gen device, we will be sure to cover everything surrounding the game as more news is revealed.
