Once you reach level 50 in Diablo 4 and unlock the intricate Paragon Board system, you’ll see a socket on each board. That’s where Diablo 4’s Glyphs come in, powerful item drops that can increase the impact of your Paragon Board picks.

This guide explains the Glyph types in Diablo 4 Season 1, how you can upgrade them, and the levels and XP required per level, so let’s dive in.

There are two types of Glyphs in Diablo 4, namely Magic and Rare. Socketting a Glyph Paragon Board socket will give you a powerful, gameplay-altering mechanic. For example, we got Unleash with our Ice Sorcerer. This Glyph activates after spending 50 Mana and provides your character with 6.7% increased damage and 6.7% increased mana generation for three (3) seconds. It can also be upgraded for higher percentage effects.

Glyphs in Diablo 4, when socketed into a Paragon Board, also provide players with a bonus if the requirements are met. In the case of the Unleash example, the bonus is 50% to all Magic Node attributes in range of the Glyph, with the requirement being 40 Intelligence on the Paragon Board in range of the Glyph. The power of a Glyph, and its radius, increases per level.

Once you reach World Tier 3 (Nightmare) difficulty, you can do Nightmare Dungeons. First, you’ll need Nightmare Sigils, which drop from completing Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers, Helltides, and more.

To upgrade Glyphs, you will need Nightmare Sigils to start Nightmare Dungeons. Upon clearing a Nightmare Dungeon, as per the image above, you will receive 4 XP towards upgrading a Glyph in Diablo 4. Select the Glyph you wish to upgrade, and that Glyph will receive the XP from your Nightmare Dungeon completion.

Diablo 4 Glyphs have 21 levels, so you can greatly upgrade them. Check out the table as per Maxroll.gg’s data below showcases how much XP is required to upgrade Glyph levels!

Update on 21 July 2023: We've updated this article with the latest info on Glyph types to use on your Paragon Board in Diablo 4.
