The LEC Summer Finals 2020 have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Riot Games exploring “other options” for the event. <\/p>\n

The event was scheduled to take place in Malmo, Sweden<\/a> on 29-30th August, although unsurprisingly the event has been cancelled due to the virus outbreak. <\/p>\n

“We’re currently exploring other options for the event, and will share more with you in the near future,” reads the post from Riot Games<\/a>. <\/p>\n

They’re also moving production of the LEC Summer season back to the LEC Studio in Berlin, which will start with Week 1 on 12th June. <\/p>\n

The post adds: “We will operate with a skeleton production crew adhering to updated health and safety precautions as determined by local regulations, and teams will continue to play remotely from their training facilities.”<\/p>\n

As the season progresses, they plan to increase the amount of staff working at the studio, “with the eventual goal of having teams and press return as well” – although they didn’t state when a live audience could return. <\/p>\n

This gradual approach is due to the amount of staff required when teams, press and audience are brought back into the fold, so they’re starting with a low risk approach. <\/p>\n

While the cancellation of the Summer Finals in a live capacity was expected, it’s unclear whether this gradual rollout could lead to teams, at least, being present for the other options they’re exploring for the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
