{"id":54104,"date":"2023-09-21T11:52:36","date_gmt":"2023-09-21T11:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/ftc-refund"},"modified":"2024-07-20T06:05:59","modified_gmt":"2024-07-20T06:05:59","slug":"ftc-refund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/fortnite\/ftc-refund","title":{"rendered":"How To Get FTC Refund In Fortnite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in December 2022, Epic Games reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in which the <a title=\"Fortnite\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ginx.tv\/en\/fortnite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fortnite<\/a> developer was ordered to pay &#36;520 million in relief over allegations that the company violated the Children&rsquo;s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and used &#8220;design tricks&#8221; that made millions of players make unwanted purchases.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of that, the settlement money is being used to provide refunds to Fortnite players in the US who were affected the billing and refund practices. Depsite the settlement being agreed in December 2022, players haven&#8217;t been able to claim their refund until now.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How To Check If You&#8217;re Eligible For The Fortnite FTC Refund<\/h2>\n<p>The FTC <a title=\"FTC\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/enforcement\/refunds\/fortnite-refunds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously outlined<\/a> the following criteria for being eligible for the Fornite refund:<\/p>\n<ul data-mm-id=\"_25pxq6jb9\">\n<li>Parents whose children made an unauthorized credit card purchase in the Epic Games Store between January 2017 and November 2018<\/li>\n<li>Fortnite players who were charged in-game currency (V-Bucks) for unwanted in-game items (such as cosmetics, llamas, or battle passes) between January 2017 and September 2022<\/li>\n<li>Fortnite players whose accounts were locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after disputing unauthorized charges with their credit card companies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that only US citizens are eligible for a refund, as long as they meet the above criteria.<\/p>\n<h2>How To Claim Fortnite FTC Refund<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"img-figure\" contenteditable=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" contenteditable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-cf.ginx.tv\/imgcdn\/94aDcBaOZFR9NrqpkpwWK9yNK1KiVUl-TW59LbkavV0\/rs:fill:0:0:1\/g:ce\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ2lueC50di91cGxvYWRzMi9Gb3J0bml0ZS9Gb3J0bml0ZUxvb3RMbGFtYS5qcGc\" alt=\"FortniteLootLlama.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption contenteditable=\"false\">Players can only claim a refund if they meet the eligibility criteria. (Picture: Epic Games)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To apply for the FTC refund in Fornite, eligible players should head over to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/enforcement\/refunds\/fortnite-refunds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FTC website<\/a>, and click the button at the top of the page labelled &#8220;Apply for a Refund.&#8221; As of September 19, 2023, the FTC has begun sending out emails to those they believe to be eligible for a refund.&nbsp;To apply for a refund, you&#8217;ll also need a <strong>claim number<\/strong>&nbsp;or your <strong>Epic Account ID<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As confirmed by the FTC, applying for a refund will have no effect on any items currently tied to your Fortnite account, so players won&#8217;t lose any items should they make a claim.<\/p>\n<h2>Is There A Deadline To Claim Fortnite FTC Refund?<\/h2>\n<p>Players will need to apply for their refund by January 17, 2024. According to the FTC website, you must be at least 18 to complete the claim form.
