Spider-Man 2‘s open world is a massive playground of opportunities. The New York City you explore in this game is almost twice as big as that of the first game, featuring more iconic areas like Brooklyn and Queens. You can even try all the rides in Coney Island.

But being a Spider-Man isn’t all fun and games, and while there are plenty of gorgeous sights to beholds and NPCs to high five, there’s also a wide variety of returning and new activities you can partake in to gain XP and resources. In this guide, we explain all the open world activities in Spider-Man 2.

You’re not a real Spider-Man if you don’t take a detour to stop every occuring criminal activity in the neighborhood. Whether it’s fighting a bunch of cultist bank robbers or stopping a good old armed vehicle, crimes are always happening in NYC and will randomly pop up more often than not.

Photo Ops return from the first game and functions pretty much like before. You take pictures of iconic landmarks, people, or events that symbolize NYC and its culture. It’s easily my favorite activity in Spider-Man 2 because it provides so much lore about the city and its people, which in return provides more incentive to protect them from all the super villains at all costs.

Despite Sandman’s fleeting presence in Spider-Man 2, he still has a prominent role in the broader narrative of the game. By interacting with Marko’s Memories, which are scattered all over NYC, you get to know his side of the story while also fighting some mini Sandman creatures.

Prowler, aka Aaron Davis, returns but not as an imposing villain. Instead, he has these powerful Techs hidden all over the city, which you can uncover to gain Rare Tech Parts. These Prowler Stashes are marked in purple and usually involve solving environmental puzzles and occasionally fighting Kraven’s Hunters.

These are story-driven side quests about the many residents of NYC. Some of these stories are quite heart-warming, with one of my favorites being where you just sit next to the lake with an old grandpa and talk about love.

There are traversal challenges that will occasionally end in combat encounters with Kraven’s Hunters. Completing all EMF Experiments will also unlock a custom Spider-Man suit for Peter.

These are story-driven side quests where you fight a bunch of new Flame cultists alongside none other than Wraith. It continues Yuri’s story arc from Spider-Man 1 as you help her track down the Flame cultist’s leader. Completing all “The Flame” missions will also unlock a custom suit.

These are Miles’ exclusive missions where you help Rio Morales manage the Cultural Museum. These also flesh out Miles’ story arc, focusing primarily on his relationship with his mother.

These are straight collectibles. Mysterious Spider-Bots have appeared from different dimensions, and finding them will trigger a neat story moment that references the Spider-Verse movies.

They may seem like standard enemy encampments, but clearing all in a district will reveal the main base of the area. Clearing the base, which, as you may expect, is crawling with Hunters, will reveal more info about Kraven and his family.

Table of Contents
