Karlach is an incredible boost to any party in Baldur’s Gate 3 as she’s one of the main damage dealers of the entire party. The Tiefling Barbarian can dish out a lot of damage in one turn thanks to the various damage bonuses that a Barbarian gets and can eclipse characters such as Lae’Zel if leveled up correctly.

Unlike some other characters, there’s no need to spec Karlach into a separate class alongside Barbarian. Just put all of your levels into Barbarian and you should be fine, since a lot of the best Barbarian abilities unlock at higher levels.

In terms of a subclass, you should pick the Berserker subclass. This subclass outputs the most damage per turn assuming everything actually hits, and while you’re raging you get a bonus attack called ‘Frenzy’ which allows you to really clobber enemies.

You’ll want to make sure that Karlach is proficient with any weapon that you use, just to make sure you’re maximizing damage potential. In terms of armor, you’ll probably want to be careful: certain armor types will hinder your rage, so you need to know what you’re doing. Don’t equip heavy armor no matter what circumstance you find yourself in, basically.

The best possible Armor you can get for Karlach is the Adamantine Scale since Reckless Attack makes it more likely that a character is hit with a critical attack and the Adamantine Scale completely eliminates that risk. Alternatively, try no armor since Barbarians receive higher AC if something isn’t labeled as armor.

As a Barbarian, Karlach doesn’t really use spells. There’s one Barbarian subclass that uses any form of magic but it’s not one that you’ll likely spec into, so just concentrate on outputting as much damage as you possibly can with a weapon. The Wild Magic subclass can be fun on occasion, but it’s not a practical subclass to go into when you only want damage above all else, meaning it’s best saved for a later playthrough.

Karlach is an incredible boost to any party in Baldur’s Gate 3 as she’s one of the main damage dealers of the entire party.
