A few weeks ago, French video game developer Arkane Studios was celebrating its 20th anniversary<\/a>, and today they’ve shared with the world gameplay from their latest game – Deathloop.<\/p>\n

Deathloop was first announced back at Bethesda’s E3 2019 conference<\/a>, and since then we haven’t seen or heard much about the game, but now they were finally ready to show some gameplay and dive deeper into the concept of the game.<\/p>\n

In Deathloop, we are taking the role of Colt, a man stuck in a perpetual loop on an island full of lunatics who are partying all day long and are on a hunt – you are their prey. When they inevitably kill you, you are waking again and again on the same beach for the cycle to repeat itself.<\/p>\n

Our goal will be to finally put an end to that endless loop of violence and deaths. To achieve that, we will need to kill the eight people responsible for maintaining the loop – all in one single loop before midnight.<\/p>\n

To achieve that, we will have a variety of weapons and supernatural abilities at our disposal.<\/p>\n

From what we saw in the trailer, the game’s gameplay looks very similar to Dishonor, and fans of the series will almost immediately recognize the similarities and that particular style of abilities and action.<\/p>\n

Developers promise an immersive, story-driven first-person shooter, but there’s one unique catch – Julianna. She’s the main antagonist,  a rival assassin with her own singular goal to protect the loop by eliminating Colt.<\/p>\n

What’s so special about her is that she brings the multiplayer aspect into the game.<\/p>\n

While you may choose to play the game completely singleplayer, with Julianna as an AI character, you can also opt for an excitingly unpredictable component of the game – to allow other random players to jump into your game and play as Julianna.<\/p>\n

We saw something similar with DOOM’s Invasion mode<\/a>, where random players jump into your games as demons to fight against you. Given that Zenimx owns both Arkane and idSoftware, we might assume that there was some collaboration on this technology.<\/p>\n

“The focus is on the campaign and the story,” Deathloop Game Director Dinga Bakaba says.<\/a> “And that campaign can be played with Julianna controlled only by the AI, or – and this is our recommendation – by a mix of A.I. and random players to experience the range of unpredictability and chaos that Julianna is capable of.”<\/p>\n

Deathloop release is slated for Holiday 2020, for PlayStation 5 and PC.<\/p>\n
