A lost Game Boy Advance game is making its long-awaited journey to a Nintendo platform as it was unveiled during Nintendo’s Fall Indie World Showcase<\/a>. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will traverse its way to the Nintendo Switch in 2024, as announced by developer Way Forward<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The game has been fully remastered for the current-gen console, packed with new features and mechanics in a thrilling trailer. As such, protagonist Shantae will be back on the pursuit across the world of Sequin Land in a quest to thwart her enemy’s plans of terraforming the world.<\/p>\n

Initially developed for the Game Boy Advance prior to the release of Shantae in 2002, the game was placed “on hiatus” as Way Forward couldn’t find a publisher to help release the game. Fast forward to this year when the developer confirmed that the game’s development has resumed with Limited Run Games as publisher.<\/p>\n

The game is the sixth entry in the platformer franchise, with events of Risky Revolution taking place before Risky’s Revenge, as the latter was released in 2010. As Shantae, players will be playing as the half-genie who looks to prevent a catastrophic event from happening in Sequin Land after learning that Risky Boots plans to use a device to modify the world.<\/p>\n

The game features plenty of unique features and mechanics, including four-player local Battle Mode, to aid Shantae in exploring Sequin Land, like rearranging the environments to access locations and change between its multi-layered levels. Using abilities unique to her to make traversal more engaging, like hair flips and belly dancing as they navigate through labyrinths, crypts, and lost towns.<\/p>\n

For Way Forward, revitalizing a long-lost Nintendo game has been a lifelong journey as the team reassembled most of the original design team to work on this project. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be heading to Nintendo Switch sometime in 2024, with port versions for PlayStation 4|5 and PC via Steam also confirmed.<\/p>\n
