Black Mage<\/a> is a Caster DPS Job in FFXIV and arguably the most powerful DPS Job in FFXIV, able to hit some of the highest numbers when compared to melee DPS, Physical Ranged DPS, and even other Caster DPS. <\/p>\n

In FFXIV, building your character is a core gameplay component. It’s not enough to know a boss battle inside and out if your gear is not up to the necessary requirements. A sub-section of acquiring gear in FFXIV is also infusing this said gear with Materia, otherwise known as Materia Melding. <\/p>\n

Depending on the type of Job and the gear piece in question, several different kinds of Materia can be used to enhance your stats. When choosing Materia for any class in FFXIV, it’s important to know which stats this Job is trying to prioritize. DPS Jobs will often want as much Strength or Critical Hit as possible, while healers may instead choose to focus on Spell Speed or Speed, in general, to pump out heals as efficiently as possible. Regardless, if a certain playstyle suits you the best, whether this be landing huge critical hits or focusing on consistent damage, feel free to meld the Materia you want to your items. <\/p>\n

That being said, Materia Melding is not cheap, so it is understandable why players want to spend their Gil and resources optimally. <\/p>\n

Here are some of the stats you should prioritize and some example Materia for Black Mage players to look out for. <\/p>\n

Best Black Mage Materia in order of priority:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Spell Speed<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Critical hit<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Direct Hit<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Spell Speed is a great Materia option for Black Mages, as it can allow them to pump out more damage-dealing abilities in rapid succession. Seeing as your abilities, all hit like a truck anyway, it is more important to churn them out as opposed to increasing their damage even further. <\/p>\n

    That being said, if you just want to see how high the DPS meter can go and want to make sure you remain uncontested at the top of the party DPS chart, you can invest in Critical Hit or Direct Hit for more damage. <\/p>\n
