EA and Maxis have announced s brand new skin option coming to The Sims 4<\/a> as part of the Create-a-Sim feature. Vitiligo, a condition that causes patches of white skin to appear on the body due to a lack of melanin, will be available in The Sims 4 base game through a free update.<\/p>\n

Vitiligo additions to The Sims serves to further the game’s commitment to “deliver content that authentically and respectfully mirrors the diversity of its millions of players.” The Vitiligo feature can be applied to Sims of all ages, and players can choose from a variety of patterns of different levels of coverage and symmetry. <\/p>\n

in The Sims 4, players can choose where to apply the patches to their Sims, be it on the face, upper torso, lower torso, arms, or legs. In a new blog post<\/a>, The Sims developers went into further detail of how they came to represent vitiligo in this new update: “Our Concept Artist and Art Director collaborated to design a diverse set of patterns across faces, torso sections, and limbs. In our research, we found that depigmentation may have clear edges and some edges may be darker and irregular,<\/p>\n

“Affected skin can be absolutely white, or can be pink or varying shades lighter than the surrounding skin. Since vitiligo affects people of all ethnicities and skin types, our Senior Character Artist intentionally created the first assets to work with a Sim’s skin tone. As you cycle through the shades and change from warm to neutral to cool, the color of your Sim’s Vitiligo will adjust to change with it.”<\/p>\n

In celebration of the new content drop, EA and Maxis have also teamed up with supermodel Winnie Harlow. Players can check out original content like a Simified version of her home and a playable, Winnie-inspired Sim.<\/p>\n
