Having been shadowdropped back in December 2023, The Finals<\/a> pairs team-based matches with dynamic environments that pits players against each other with the goal of securing as much cash as possible. Developed by Embark Studios, a subsidiary of Nexon, this free-to-play FPS made its way to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.<\/p>\n

But despite launching across these massive platforms, it seems The Finals’ performance hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. In a recent earnings letter, Nexon confirmed<\/a> that they saw strong performances with certain titles, such as EA Sports FCTM Mobile and Blue Archive, but that these results were “partially offset primarily by lower-than-expected performance of The Finals.”<\/p>\n

The report described the launch of Season 2, which occurred back in March, creating a “short-lived” increase in player metrics, but that it delivered “lower-than-expected retention and revenue.”<\/p>\n

According to SteamDB, with the launch of Season 2, The Finals reached a peak of 48,519 players in March, however the numbers have been dropping. In the last 30 days, the game hit a peak of 21,119 players — a far cry from the game’s all-time player count peak of 242,619. It’s worth noting, however, that these are only the numbers for players on PC. The true count, including Xbox and PlayStation, is likely much higher. <\/p>\n

Season 3 is set to go live this June, and it remains to be seen whether player numbers will once again grow, and stabilize. The game has seen an increase in new content since launch, including the new Terminal Attack limited-time 5v5 mode. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
