Japanese publisher Square Enix stealthily dropped a new teaser trailer for their forthcoming Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake release. The RPG, which was first announced on Dragon Quest Day in 2021, had not received an update until recently when a teaser provided new information on the remake.

While this teaser featured no gameplay footage, it did confirm the platforms for which Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will be released. Additionally, it came with a caption found within the video’s description, reading, “The legend of Erdrick draws near.”

The teaser trailer’s tagline, “The legacy draws near,” suggests that an official trailer is coming soon; however, a timeframe has yet to be determined. Despite this, it is positive news that we can anticipate more information on Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake in the coming weeks and months before it’s available to players globally.

The original release of Dragon Quest 3 continued the storyline from the previous two releases, centered on the unnamed Hero who is embarking on a mission to save the world from a formidable threat, Baramos. Players can choose to play a male or female protagonist as they continue the journey to find and defeat Baramos while recruiting companions to aid them in their quest.

The game is initially the first in the trilogy chronologically and was noted for significantly expanding its gameplay mechanics and features from the previous releases. Dragon Quest 3 featured a greater emphasis on an open-world structure compared to the last Dragon Quest games, which were more nonlinear, allowing for more player freedom in-game.

The upcoming remake will likely utilize the same or similar technology the Japanese publisher used for the Live A Live Remake and the recently released Octopath Traveler and its sequel. As for when we can expect follow-up news and updates for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, there are a few indications that the upcoming Summer Game Fest may see Square Enix confirm a release date.
