Valve’s Team Fortress 2 was released a very long time ago, on 10 October 2007, and it makes me feel old. There are, however, still players enjoying the iconic first-person shooter, or at least, trying to!<\/p>\n

Players have finally had enough, and a group of dedicated fans have started a petition that looks expertly done. This petition, with the hashtag #FixTF2 on social media, has gathered over 220,000 signatures (as of 07:00 BST on 5 June 2024), and the number is increasing quickly. To put things into perspective, on 4 June, the petition had less than 150,000 signatures.<\/p>\n

Bots have run rampant in TF2 for over five years, as the petition’s official description explains:<\/p>\n

For the past five years, Team Fortress 2 has become nearly unplayable. The game’s official servers have been overrun by hordes of cheating aimbots while Valve has remained steadfast in their refusal to adequately tackle the problem. This lack of developer interference has thrown the game into a state of turmoil with seemingly no end in sight.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As per the tweet from the official Team Fortress 2 X account<\/a> below, you can see that Valve has been aware of the issue for quite some time, and even said they are working to improve things, more than two years ago in May 2022.<\/p>\n

The petition continues by calling out Valve for its lack of effort on the matter, speaking to the microtransactions and the money the developer still makes from the classic title.<\/p>\n

Despite being aware of the bot crisis, Valve has instead directed their focus towards other ventures, leaving TF2 with insufficient support in its grave time of need. From the outside, Valve appears to be more concerned with generating millions in revenue every month via in-game microtransactions, rather than maintaining a product that should work as expected.<\/p>\n

There’s no putting it lightly, Team Fortress 2 is in an unacceptable state, and Valve’s apathy in dealing with the issue is nothing short of appalling.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
